Ban To Stop Left-Handed People From Marrying Introduced Into NH Bill

New Hampshire Rep. Seth Cohn, R-Canterbury, helped to stop the repeal of the legalization of gay marriages in his state. Cohn, intentionally sponsored an amendment to the traditional marriage bill banning left-handed people from marrying, effectively ensuring it’s demise. The bill failed by a vote of 116-211 in the Republican-controlled legislature. Applause was heard from many of the lawmakers on the statehouse floor in Concord. Protesters from both sides of the issue gathered outside the statehouse debating back and forth with signs and slogans such as“two lefts don’t make a right.” Cohn, also a Free State Project member,  jokingly said,

I’m using humor to make a point; and when I get up there, believe me, there will be a point made. I’m trying to sway people’s opinions and   using humor is one way to do it; everyone has an equal right to marry the right-hander of their choice.

State lawmakers approved civil unions in 2007 and same-sex marriages in 2009, when both houses in the state legislature were controlled by Democrats. Close to 2,000 gay and lesbian couples have been married in New Hampshire since the current law went into effect January 1, 2010. The new law would have replaced same-sex marriages with civil unions starting in 2013, but marriages that took place before the repeal would have remained valid.

Airport Workers, Afraid to Speak Out Against TSA

This is the second part of the Kelly Derrick TSA (Airport Security) outreach event. The second video is coming out a little late to say the least.  At this point it may be like beating the dead horse, which is why I stalled on the release of it, but it’s a good video nonetheless, so I decided to release it.  This video focuses more on the airport workers (I put a few public interactions in there as well) and documents several of the workers being afraid to speak out against the TSA in the fear of losing their jobs.

Jonathan Schell Explains How Empires Fall

Mohamed Bouazizi’s self-immolation in protest of Tunisian police corruption triggered a wave of protests that eventually would spread across the planet. Yes, some violent but, in many cases, nonviolent uprisings spread across the Middle East as well. Autocrats such as Tunisia’s Zine el Abidine Ben Ali and Egypt’s Hosni Mubarak were toppled in weeks. Occupations, protests and marches spread all across Europe and America, from Greece to London, and from Moscow to Manhattan. By February 2012, the governments of four countries had been overthrown and leaders from several others had stepped down by the end of their terms.

Throughout time nations and empires with all their weapons of war, still were unable to defeat the inner strength of nonviolent actions and civil disobedience. Author Jonathan Schell of “The Unconquerable World,”  states;

it seemed the definition of noble futility: What did the rebels have to work with? They weren’t even using guns. They were just writing fliers and demonstrating in the street and sometimes occupying a factory.

Schell’s interview touches on several revolutions as well as Gandhi’s movement. He describes a true peaceful evolution, the nonviolent one, the one that took place and is continuing to take place in the hearts and minds of the people today. Read more about Schell’s explanation at Alternet.org.
