State Dismisses Charges Against TalleyTV!!

Weeks after the final pretrial hearing and jury selection, and just minutes before the trial began, agents of the state blinked.  In a moment of clarity, the court decided to dismiss the charges against TalleyTV.  This decision was “made without prejudice,” which means that the charges can be brought back at any time.  Since carrying a camera into the court is now an act which is permissible, it is unlikely these charges will ever again endanger the freedom of superactvist Jason Talley of Talley.TV.  Talley returned home to celebrate with friends in Keene and do interviews for an upcoming documentary called, “State of Liberty.”

Thanks to those of you who participated in the Mass Connection which may have been an impetus for Webb’s decision.

Why not apply peaceful public pressure on the persecutors with a polite conversation?

Here’s what I’m going to say when I call.

“Hi this is the County Prosecutor’s Office, this is (Lori).”

Hi (Lori), I’m audio and video recording at this time.  I’m looking to speak with Mr. John Webb, please.

“Hold please.”

After being nice to his secretary, when he’s on the phone…

Hello. This is John Webb speaking.

Hi, (John / Mr. Webb). I’m (DerrickJ / Mr. Freeman).  I’m audio and video recording at this time.  I’m calling to inquire if you have decided to drop the charges against Mr. Jason Talley?

“Yes.”
Thank you, sir! I’m delighted to hear you did that. Have a splendid day. Goodbye.

“No.”
I am a (friend / associate) of Mr. Jason Talley of Talley.TV. I know him (personally / from youtube videos). He’s a reporter that always advocates peace. I’m feeling upset because I have a need to to understand and be understood, and that need isn’t getting met.  John, will you please help me to understand why you are prosecuting Jason?

Here I intend to have a brief, polite conversation about feelings, needs, and requests.

Ex: I’m afraid of losing Jason, who is an important source of (companionship / joy) for me. Would you please dismiss the charges against him?

Denouement

Thank you, (John, Mr. Webb).

You’re welcome, (DerrickJ / Mr. Freeman).

Both: Goodbye.

I won’t be arguing the case with him.  That only puts ideas for potential legal arguments into his head.  Instead, I’ll be focusing on feelings and needs.  I will see him as a human being with feelings and needs of his own.  I will express how my needs aren’t being met right now and request for him to drop the charges against Jason.

Here are some lists of feeling words and needing words that I will use to help my conversation reach an outcome where both my needs and John’s needs are met.

Videographer Receives $100,000 for Having Camera Punched and Seized by Agents of the State in Hawaii

This report was cross-posted at the the Fr33 Agents campaign, WeWillRecord.com where you can learn more about recording public servants.

The shocking video above is from the Hawaiian Senate in 2001 and features State Agents saying “get that camera” and “I’m going to take the camera and I’m going to put it away.” One agent is the Senate Sergeant at Arms (and former professional boxer) Bienvenido Villaflor who decided to punch the camera of Kevin Hughes.

Carlos Miller reports:

An activist and a videographer will receive a $100,000 settlement from the state of Hawaii for a 2010 incident in which they were assaulted outside the state capitol.

While it is a hefty sum, it makes me wonder if the culprits who assaulted the men were punished.

You will probably wonder the same thing after watching the above video.

The incident began when Mitch Kahle began protesting inside the state capitol against a forced prayer, which supposedly is against the Constitution.

Security guards dragged him out with videographer Kevin Hughes following closely behind.

As the guards piled on top of Kahle outside, a group of them came after Hughes.

Camden Robocop

In a land with over 4 million state-monitored video cameras, the UK government has crossed the line for some residents of Camden.  In a YouTube video filmed and published by the resident of a flat in North London, an American voice shouts at him as he passes through his garden, “Stop, this is a restricted area and your photograph is being taken.  If you remain here, the images will be sent for processing.”  After residents complained, Camden Council turned the voice feature off, claiming it was an accident resulting from recent replacement of their batteries.  The response heard is the default feature.  It took less than 5 days to remove the voices since the publication of the youtube video which received over 100,000 hits in that time.

War on Cameras is a War on You!

Government and corrupt corporations are in need of accountability.  As free individuals, you and everyone you know have the right to make that happen.  Injustices happen all the time and many, unfortunately, go unnoticed.

Now that many have recognised this need, government agents and their respective agencies have been drafting and enforcing policies to essentially censor independent media – especially media outlets that have vested interests in exposing corruption.  When it comes to covering news stories about government actions, if you are not NBC, ABC, FOX or MSN, your analyzation of the facts or opinion on the matter is null and void.

One way you can be an agent of liberty – a FR33agent (a label I’ve grown to like), is by aiming the camera at the corruption taking place before your eyes.  We produce media everyday, on facebook, twitter, tumblr, youtube, whatever…

Take a moment away from filming your pet squirrel on mini water skis and add some meaning to what you produce.  Let’s put the spotlight back on reality.  Long live the free press!
