Colorado Tax Resister Faces 180 Days For “Tax Evasion”

Douglas Bruce, creator and operator of Active Citizens Together and author of the Taxpayer Bill of Rights, used to spend much of his time passing out pocket-size U.S. Constitutions to high school seniors and graduates.  The government is claiming that Mr. Bruce ‘failed to report’ the income from his nonprofit, Active Citizens Together.  The jury convicted him of 3 felonies and 1 misdemeanor, and sentenced him to 180 days in jail and 6 years of probation.

The Wall Street Journal reports that, “…he will have to turn over his computer files, bank accounts, and state and federal tax returns to probation authorities.”  ”His lawyer, David Lane, said that Mr. Bruce was unfairly targeted because he has been a thorn in the side of tax officials.”

In an interview Mr. Bruce, maintaining position on his innocence of wrong-doing, stated he would appeal the charges, claiming, “I will prevail.”

War on Cameras is a War on You!

Government and corrupt corporations are in need of accountability.  As free individuals, you and everyone you know have the right to make that happen.  Injustices happen all the time and many, unfortunately, go unnoticed.

Now that many have recognised this need, government agents and their respective agencies have been drafting and enforcing policies to essentially censor independent media – especially media outlets that have vested interests in exposing corruption.  When it comes to covering news stories about government actions, if you are not NBC, ABC, FOX or MSN, your analyzation of the facts or opinion on the matter is null and void.

One way you can be an agent of liberty – a FR33agent (a label I’ve grown to like), is by aiming the camera at the corruption taking place before your eyes.  We produce media everyday, on facebook, twitter, tumblr, youtube, whatever…

Take a moment away from filming your pet squirrel on mini water skis and add some meaning to what you produce.  Let’s put the spotlight back on reality.  Long live the free press!

Confronting The Meter Maid

Meter maids operate as tax collectors for the state.  They “generate” revenue by extorting money from you and yours – “pay this or else…”

Don’t put up with threats.  Tell them their actions will not be tolerated or at least not be taken seriously.

Negate the State! :)

New Libertarian Manifesto in Audio

Mike Gogulski over at NoState.com has taken the initiative to do something many of us have at least considered doing, he has recorded an audio version of Samuel E. Konkin III’s New Libertarian Manifesto.

The New Libertarian Manifesto is, of course, the founding document of Agorism, which I am a proponent of.

Agorism is revolutionary market anarchism. In a market anarchist society, law and security will be provided by market institutions, not political institutions. Agorists recognize, therefore, that those institutions can not develop through political reform. Instead, they will come about as a result of market processes. As government is banditry, revolution culminates in the suppression of government by market providers of security and law. Market demand for such service providers is what will lead to their emergence. Development of that demand will come from economic growth in the sector of the economy that explicitly shuns state involvement (and therefore can not turn to the state in its role as monopoly provider of security and law). That sector of the economy is the counter-economy – black and grey markets.

– Brad Spangler, Agorist Revolution in a Nutshell

Mike Gogulski’s introduction to the audio version…

Good morning, New Libertarian. Good morning, agorist.

The voice you will hear for the next 85 minutes or so belongs to me, Mike Gogulski.

I am a stateless ex-American. I renounced my American citizenship in 2008 and I have been a voluntary exile since 2004, presently living in Bratislava, Slovakia. As of this recording in May 2009, I maintain a website at www.nostate.com, which you are invited to visit.

The words you will hear belong to all of humanity, but they were written by Samuel Edward Konkin III, arguably the initiator of the agorist theory. The book, New Libertarian Manifesto, was first published in 1980, and then updated in 1983.

After two, brief prefaces, the book consists of five chapters:

Statism: Our Condition
Agorism: Our Goal
Counter-Economics: Our Means
Revolution: Our Strategy
Action! Our Tactics

I have attempted to read the text of New Libertarian Manifesto as I have it in hand. Any deviations from the written text – which you can find online at the website agorism.info – are my own.

After listening, take action.

Agora! Anarchy! Action!

This is something that us Agorists have needed for a long time and hats off to Mike for making it happen.

Xaq Fixx for President!

Well, not exactly president but Executive Director/Crasher-in-Chief of Bureaucrash.

As some of y’all may know, both Jason and I formerly worked at Bureaucrash in this capacity. Since my departure on April 1st to pursue Motorhome Diaries a number of friends and movement acquaintances have contacted me asking my thoughts about them applying for the position.

I’ve been straight-up with these folks, both about the nature of the job and in sharing my opinion on whether they’d be a good fit. And though I don’t claim to know of all of those that’ve applied for the gig, I believe that I have a good idea of some of the front-runners — one of whom is Xaq Fixx, whom both Jason and I are throwing our support behind for the following reasons:

  • Xaq is an activist. I have no question that he’ll be a lifelong advocate for liberty ’til the day he dies and this position can’t just be a job.
  • Xaq has the most institutional knowledge of Bureaucrash. He has developed personal relationships with crashers, knows what tactics have worked well and not-so-well, and has a solid grasp of the purpose of Bureaucrash.
  • Xaq has the passion, drive and entrepreneurial mindset needed to head an organization that has very limited resources.
  • Xaq is a networker and is well-liked by those active at Bureaucrash and those in the larger movement, many of whom he’s interacted with due to his role as host of the Podcrash.
  • Xaq is hardcore. Bureaucrash isn’t your run-of-the-mill beltway organization that works to better govenment, but instead it aims to strike the root.

I’m not sure if this post will have any influence on those at the Competitive Enterprise Institute (of which Bureaucrash became a project of a few years ago) as they review applications, but I wanted to voice my support for Xaq as he is my friend and because I believe that he has the skill-set necessary to head Bureaucrash.

If you too agree, then why not let those at CEI know by emailing Cord Blomquist, who is overseeing the application-review process: cblomquist[at]cei[dot]org.

Best of luck buddy!
