Bradley Manning’s Trial Prolonged Again

Bradley Manning, the man who leaked the footage of the US Military recklessly firing at journalists from helicopters in Iraq, was scheduled to have an arraignment this week.  There Bradley would have the opportunity to plea guilty or innocent, and whether or not he wanted a military judge or a jury to preside over the case.  The Guardian reported this Thursday Bradley chose to remain silent on those two issues.  Manning faces 22 charges, and if found guilty, would serve a sentence of life in military prison.

His trial date is set for the 3rd of August later this year.  Having already spent over 635 days in military prison, he will have been waiting in prison for over 800 days by the time the trial begins.

This is a classic case of shooting the messenger.  Agents of the state have murdered innocent civilians with no purpose except their own twisted gratification, and the man who points that out must suffer to send a clear message from the US military to the world:  Put up with senseless state violence, or spend life in prison.

Bradley Manning to be Arraigned Feb. 23rd

In solidarity with the Bradley Maning Support Network, Fr33 Agents is passing along the following action alert.
An arraignment is a formal reading of a criminal complaint in the presence of the defendant to inform the defendant of the charges against him or her.

Bradley Manning to be arraigned Feb. 23rd. Join our call-in to gov’t representatives.

Please call your congressional representative today to express your support for whistle-blowers and to demand justice for Bradley Manning. Drop all the charges now! Find contact information for your local representative here.

Pfc. Bradley Manning, an alleged WikiLeaks whistle-blower, will be formally arraigned on the 23rd of February. While his presence in the courtroom will be brief, the arraignment sets in motion Manning’s court martial, which is currently expected to begin in May. With this in mind we are requesting that supporters write, email, and call their local representatives to express their outrage over the charges against, and the treatment of, Pfc. Bradley Manning. The military court proceedings have thus far been for show, but we can still ask our elected officials to protect whistle-blowers and to pressure the Obama Administration to drop all the charges against Bradley Manning.

1. It took a year and a half to get to the pretrial hearing, and once there the military selected an Investigating Officer from the same department investigating WikiLeaks. This is not justice.

2. Military officials are refusing to allow access to key witnesses and evidence. The only witnesses called by the defense who will be allowed to testify are those who have also been called by the administration. They have blocked critically important evidence — such as internal administration WikiLeaks impact assessments — from being considered in open court. This evidence could have contradicted the government’s ridiculous “aiding the enemy” charge.

3. Whistle-blowers are essential to a vibrant democracy. Secrecy is not the answer. Laws must be implemented to protect whistle-blowers. Blowing the whistle on war crimes should not be a crime. Why was this material classified in the first place? The classification of government documents should not be used to cover up crimes.

4. Eight months of solitary confinement is torture. The Obama administration has repeatedly denied the UN Special Rapporteur on Torture, Juan Mendez, from access to a private visit with Bradley Manning. Why has Bradley Manning’s treatment been so severe? Why is Bradley Manning being denied a confidential visit with Juan Mendez?

Stop the retaliation against whistle-blowers. Drop all charges against PFC Bradley Manning! Call your local representative and ask them to raise the issue of Pfc. Bradley Manning’s unjust treatment. Tell them justice is not being served. Please write, tweet, email, call, and otherwise share your experience. Let us know how your representatives have responded. Bradley Manning’s supporters are listening, and it’s time for the government to do the same.

The phone number and contact information for your representative can be found by following the link below,

House of Representatives Contact Information.

International supporters can raise the issue with the nearest US Embassy.

Russell Kanning Kidnapped by Federal Marshalls… for chalking

This post originally appeared at CDEvolution.org:

WACO, TX – Russell Kanning was arrested/kidnapped by federal marshalls yesterday, July 5, for chalking a federal building in Waco, Texas.  Russell’s wife, Kat Kanning, reports that he is currently being held at the Jack Harwell Detention Center.

Take Action: Call 254.759.5900 to ask the U.S. Federal Government to release Russell Kanning and to check on this peaceful man’s safety.

He has a bond hearing on Monday at 2PM where Kat reports that “they will determine if there’s enough evidence to call a grand jury” for willfully damaging US Property of an amount not exceeding $1000 (a misdemeanor). Here is what Kat reported on NH Underground yesterday:

Russell in Happier Times

Russell’s in jail for writing ‘Free Naz‘ and ‘Free Bradley Manning‘ on the federal building in Waco. I was detained for about an hour also just for taking pictures. I don’t know where Russell is yet, or how long they’re going to keep him. [see update above] The feds erased all my pics. The district attorney (not sure if that’s the right office) cussed Russell out royally and acted like his hornet’s nest had really been stirred. I haven’t looked up phone numbers yet, but it was federal marshals who took Russell. They talked like they’d hand him over to Waco police, but I don’t know yet. I don’t know if anyone feels like helping, but Russell could use some phone calls on his behalf. He said this morning he’s going to start his prison ministry and try to help guys in prison find a better path.

Kat and Russell Kanning were my Free Grafton neighbors until they left to fulfill the Shire’s manifest destiny to expand westward. We sang together in the Peaceful Assembly Choir (video), constructed Grafton Gulch (video), opposed the United States presence in New Hampshire (video), and more.

Here is a previous episode of Talley.TV where Kat Kanning was arrested for chalking at the Federal Building in Concord, NH:

I first learned about Russell’s most recent effort against the U.S. Federal Empire on last night’s Free Talk Live when Kat called in.

Video: Singing Activists ask Obama “We’ve Paid Our Dues, Now Where’s our Change?”

and Obama’s response:

The Drudge Report published this pool report (with pro-bradley manning lyrics) entitled “Protesters hit high-end Obama fundraiser…”

Motorcade left the Intercontinental Hotel at 9 am local and arrived at the St. Regis for President Obama’s last Bay area fundraiser. A couple dozen demonstrators are on a corner across the street from the hotel. They have signs – “Yes We Cannabis” and “Protect Marijuana Patients Rights” – and are chanting something your pooler couldn’t make out. One of them also has sign of Uncle Sam’s face with “LIAR” written on his hat.

About 200 donors were at the breakfast fundraiser, per a Democratic official.Your pooler counted 15 tables with 10 chairs each, however, and not all tables were full, including one in the back where Valerie Jarrett, Jay Carney and Patrick Gaspard sat with two other people. Tickets are $35,800 each. The money goes to The Victory Fund, a joint account of the Obama campaign and the DNC. $5,000 goes to the campaign, and $30,800 goes to DNC.

POTUS was introduced by Nancy Pelosi. “We can thank him for bringing hope where there was despair for some,” Ms. Pelosi said. POTUS, she said, was a job creator from the start.”His reelection is absolutely essential to our country’s future,” Ms. Pelosi said. POTUS spoke with a handheld mic. “I’ll admit I sort of slept in,” POTUS said.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein, Lt Gov. Gavin Newsom was seated front, former Mayor Willie Brown, “no matter how hard I try, Willie is still better dressed than me – although I’m still getting used to the no mustache thing.” POTUS called Ms. Pelosi one of the greatest speakers in history. He started to launch into his stump speech when Ms. Pelosi interrupted to say Gov. Jerry Brown had been there.

Mr. Obama was in the middle of his remarks when a woman in a white suit stood up and said, Mr. President we wrote you a song. POTUS tried to get her to wait until later, but she persisted and the table of 10 broke into a song that pointed out they’d just spent $5,000 donating to his campaign and went on to protest the treatment of Pfc. Bradley Manning. The woman stayed standing as they sang. Mr. Obama looked to Ms. Pelosi and asked, Nancy did you do this? Ms. Pelosi had a look on her face, as she stared at the singing group, that definitely said she did not. The song – will send quotes after transcribe – talked about Bradley Manning and how he is “alone in a cell…”

The 10 singers then passed around 8.5×11 signs that said “Free Bradley Manning” or had a photo of him. Then the woman in the white suit stripped off her jacket to reveal a black T-shirt that said Free Bradley Manning, with an image of him. “We paid our dues. Where’s our change?” they sang. USSS and WH staff had moved near the table at this point. The woman was escorted out. Two others left on their own. (The rest stayed and applauded at the end of POTUS’s speech.)

“That was a nice song,” a displeased Mr. Obama said. “Now where was I?” POTUS asked. As was indicated by that song, “Over the last 2 and a half years, change turned out to be tougher than we expected,” POTUS said.

Subject: Pool report #1a – song lyrics

Here it is:

Dear Mr. President we honor you today sir
Each of us brought you $5,000
It takes a lot of Benjamins to run a campaign
I paid my dues, where’s our change?
We’ll vote for you in 2012, yes that’s true
Look at the Republicans – what else can we do
Even though we don’t know if we’ll retain our liberties
In what you seem content to call a free society
Yes it’s true that Terry Jones is legally free
To burn a people’s holy book in shameful effigy
But at another location in this country
Alone in a 6×12 cell sits Bradley
23 hours a day is night
The 5th and 8th Amendments say this kind of thing ain’t right
We paid our dues, where’s our change?

One of the singers gave your pooler the lyrics, written out on the back of the menu for the fundraiser. It includes the website freshjuiceparty.com

Also, on POTUS – your pooler would say he took the song in stride and at first he didn’t seem to realize it was a protest song.

In other news, the menu included scrambled organic Petaluma farmed eggs, chicked apple sausages, organic fingerling potatoes; fruit and berries; miniature danishes and Matzo crackers. Motorcade is rolling to the airport at 10 am local.

Solidarity.
