Raise a glass of your favorite adult beverage this Friday, December 5th, to celebrate Repeal Day, the 75th anniversary of the ratification of the 21st Amendment, which as the name might suggest, repealed Prohibition, promptly sending bathtub gin down the drain and happy imbibers back to the bar. Imbibe Magazine has helpfully put together a list of Repeal Day celebrations being held in cities across this great land of ours.
If you find yourself in the nation’s capital on this momentous occasion, you should make plans to attend the Cato Institute’s Policy Forum: Free to Booze: the 75th Anniversary of the Repeal of Prohibition at which our friend Radley Balko will be speaking on the disastrous effects that alcohol prohibition wrought in this country. If that’s not enough to whet your whistle, our friend Jacob Grier will make his triumphant return to DC to tend bar for the forum reception. Jacob is a master mixologist in his own right, but he also convinced Jeffrey Morgenthaler, a master mixologist and the man behind Repeal Day to tend bar at the post-forum reception as well. They’ll be making a variety of pre-Prohibition cocktails to celebrate the end of our misguided experiment with alcohol prohibition. If you can’t make it to DC, feel free to tune in online.
