Tuesdays with Paul

Ron Paul was all over the media today including appearances on MSNBC, Bloomberg and Fox News.

The most outstanding is the MSNBC interview where the host sounds like a child trying to spread gossip and foment confrontation rather than having a substantive conversation about issues.

What is Conservative Foreign Policy?

This past Thursday, people from all around the country gathered at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington DC.  They came to hear the leaders of their movement speak on various subjects including affirmative action, gun rights and limited government.  While conservatives in attendance were in general agreement on most of these topics, a sharp divide was apparent on one issue: foreign policy.

The divide was emphasized by Republican dark horse Ron Paul who has drawn a lot of attention for his opposition to what he calls “the American Empire” overseas.  Paul was given the stage on Friday and spoke to a large crowd in the main ballroom.  Paul took this opportunity to focus on non-interventionist foreign policy which was met with a mix of boos and cheers.  One such moment was when Paul said,

Part of the reason why we lost the last election was the foreign policy issue.  Generally it is the case the the presidential candidate who makes the case for less war mongering will win the election.  And of course Obama took advantage of that…. But the truth is foreign policy hasn’t changed.  We should be looking to what George Bush said in 2000.  He was strongly critical of the Clinton years, of nation building and being the policeman of the world. Tuesdays with Paul

ronpaulWith this post we’re starting a new feature here at Fr33 Agents called Tuesdays with Paul. The idea is to cover the continuing efforts of Ron Paul and the r3VOLutionaries he inspired in their wide-ranging pursuit of truth, liberty and the Paulian way. Heck, I went door-to-door for the man, or at least the principles he espouses, and that faded bumper sticker will remain stuck to my bumper for as long as the adhesive stands up to the weather. Much more than just a cult of personality, Ron Paul’s movement has spawned an energetic, sometimes kooky, movement that appears to be around for the long haul and is already showing its mettle in fights against the stimulus and other government excesses. For this first installment, lets just list the cast of characters:

Ron Paul: a multi-term US Representative from Texas and doctor, whose run in the last Republican primary inspired the r3VOLution, an answer to Obama Girl and his own soda. More info: Congressional site and wikipedia page.

Here’s the good doctor on CNN’s American morning yesterday decrying the pork-laden stimulus bill:

Here are some organizations and websites dedicated to carrying the r3VOLution forward:

Campaign for Liberty–their mission is to: promote and defend the great American principles of individual liberty, constitutional government, sound money, free markets, and a noninterventionist foreign policy, by means of educational and political activity. Officially endorsed by Paul and has Jesse Benton, Paul’s campaign spokesman on staff.

Break the Matrix!–the cable/web television arm of Basic Media, a company formed by Trevor Lyman, who became famous for organizing Paul’s online presence. He pioneered the concept of moneybombs and acted to promote Paul and his ideas independently of the campaign as did many other r3VOLutionaries.

Young Americans for Liberty–the well-organized youth wing of the r3VOLution

RonPaul.com–a site run by independent Paul supporters.

Ron Paul Blog–pretty self-explanatory, but note it’s not actually written by Paul.

United Liberty–begun by friends here in Bama that I met through the r3VOLution, UL provides daily commentary on topics that would interest Paulistas.

DailyPaul.com–continuing daily coverage of all things Paul.

RonPaulforPresident2008.com–a clearinghouse for the many disparate satellites that inhabit the Paulosphere.

No doubt I’ve missed a bunch. Feel free to add more groups, sites, et cetera in the comments.

Glenn Beck, on the brink of libertarianism?

beckGlenn Beck is making some libertarians excited as he moved into his 5PM EST timespot this week on Fox News. His on air rants have focused on a government run amok and has so far interviewed Ron Paul, Steven Moore and John Stossell.

The Miami Herald opened a proile of beck with the follwing:

Glenn Beck goes on the air with Fox News for the first time Monday afternoon, and he’s got a surprise for you: He’s not a conservative anymore.

”Every day that goes by, I’m more and more libertarian,” says Beck, whose new show (titled, coincidentally, Glenn Beck) will air from 5 to 6 p.m. weekdays. ‘I’ve always been a conservative. But every day I find myself believing more and more in states’ rights, individual rights — let people alone, get the government out of everybody’s lives, let everybody rule themselves.”

According to Free Advice blogger Bob Murphy:”Woo hoo! Keep it real, Glenn!”

My DVR is fired up and I look forward to following Mr. Beck on his journey towards a less violent, more ethical political philosophy. Here’s a taste:
